Benefits of UL Listed Heater

A major concern for most when buying modern machinery is how safe it actually is.  No one will purchase a machine that will hurt the operator or anyone in the vicinity.  Since this concern is so tremendous, various organizations have been created to certify the safety of products, like UL.  There are benefits of UL listed heaters.

Who is UL

Underwriters Laboratories (UL) is a global independent safety science company that certifies, validates, tests, inspects, audits, and advises and trains the public on adoption of electricity to new breakthroughs in sustainability, renewable energy, and nanotechnology.  Dedicated to promoting safe living and working environments, safeguard people, products and places in important ways, facilitating trade and providing peace of mind. They are responsible for accrediting consumer products based upon criteria set in place by major consumer safety organizations, such as the Occupational Safety & Health Administration (OSHA) and the American National Standards Institute (ANSI).

UL will create a dedicated partnership with manufacturers throughout the product’s life cycle.  They will start their services with the design, move through prototyping to functional testing and certification, and conclude with factory inspection, audits and ongoing in-field management.

How to get UL Certified

In order to get a UL certification, the company must send a sample(s) of the product to be tested and evaluate.  If UL decides that the product passes all the applicable requirements, they then authorize the manufacturer to apply a certification mark to the productions of the samples or they will issue a certificate or notification that the product is certified by UL.  If the product is rejected for any reason, the company can use the Appeals Process to examine any grievances or discrepancies that may occur during the approval or denial of a product.

UL does not test each product, but authorizes the manufacturer to test their products and apply the UL certification mark themselves.  However, UL will conduct a Follow-up Service and will have periodic audits on products to make sure that they are following the correct procedures to continue to test their products.

What are the Benefits

To customers, distributors, and retailers, a certification mark means that they are purchasing a product that has been evaluated by an accredited independent organization. This means that a qualified independent testing laboratory has reviewed the manufacturing process of the particular product and has concluded that the final product complies with specific safety standards.

  • It builds confidence for buyers, because certification by UL can be trusted for them to purchase a product that is truly up-to-date.
  • They feel secure about purchasing a product that is in compliance with applicable National Electrical Code requirements that assures that it is safe and reduces the rick of potential injuries to the users.
  • The UL mark can certify that there is a higher degree of reliability, that could increase the quality of the product.
